Today, RF Minister of Interior Rashid Nurgaliyev congratulates journalists on Day of Russian Press

Today the RF Minister of the Interior held a meeting with journalists which was dedicated to the Day of Russian Press.

In his speech the Minister pointed out that meeting with journalists have become a tradition: "I would like to congratulate you on this wonderful holiday. We are all aware how important, unusual and yet challenging and risky the journalists' job is. Many of you made business trips to the North Caucasus and to the regions. We spent the year communicating the reform on the local level, as a result, many of you traveled through all regions of our country. You did a lot in order to impartially and realistically elucidate all the issues that are of vital importance in our current work. Thank you very much for that!"

Rashid Gumarovich added that he had an opportunity to once again congratulate journalists on their holiday in the RF MVD headwuarters both on his behalf and on behalf of the MVD staff: "Today everyone realizes that the mass media take an active part in our state's life contributing a lot to the civil rights and freedoms protection as well as crime prevention. I think it is very important to mention today that this is the second year that you have been following the large-scale changes in Russia's Ministry of the Interior!"

The Minister told about the positive changes in the Internal Affairs bodies, which is appreciated by the citizens too. The study of the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center on the population trust degree towards the Internal Affairs bodies demonstrates that in 2009, 30% of the respondents gave a positive evaluation to it whereas this year this figure reached 52%.

"It is very important for us that 61% of the respondents show a positive attitude to the MVD work, yet the most important thing for us is that almost 88% of the pollees believe citizens should cooperate with the police. This is our goal we want to achieve. We are an inseparable part of our civil society, and we address issues within the framework of ensuring each and every citizen's safety. These trends show that our society has acknowledged the necessity of a dialogue and partnership between the law enforcement agencies and citizens", - continued Nurgaliyev.

The Minister emphasized that currently, Russia's MVD is actively promoting cooperation with the mass media and public. Meetings of the MVD seniors with radio, TV, information agencies and print media staff cover discussions of vital issues and ways to solve them. Rashid Nurgaliyev also commented on the wider use of the Internet capacities.

He cited a number of successfully implemented projects of Russia's MVD including "People's district police officer", "Father Frost - Policeman", children's drawing competition "My parents work with the police" and some others.

"On the one hand, it brings us closer to each other, on the other hand, it proves that MVD employees are Russia's citizens just the same", - explains Rashid Nurgaliyev.

Closing his speech, the MVD Head congratulated the audience on their professional holiday and expressed a sincere gratitude to them for the unbiased and full reports on the Internal Affairs bodies' activities: "Your materials give certain impetuses to our society - and the MVD is changing as a result. Fulfilling our law enforcement mission, we aim at protecting human rights and freedoms in the first place".
